On February 21st, 2025, ECF had the privilege of leading two workshops at the provincial ISABC Youth Sustainability Conference. With over 27 schools and 230 students in attendance, this conference is BC’s largest annual environmental gathering for youth. We were the only organization present to lead two separate workshops: The Can-Do Project: Make Your Own Soda People and Collective Action 101: How to Inspire Climate Justice.
With the Can-Do Project, AJ Wong (Graphic Designer) and A. Wren (Director of Outreach) organized a craft-making activity where participants used sustainable beads and recycled pop tabs to make their own person-shaped keychains. Alongside Enya Fang (Executive Director), Serena Zhang (National Co-Director), and Maggie Lu (National Co-Director), our five ECF executives cut wires, distributed beads, and explained the process of upcycling materials in the hour-long session.
The latter three members also planned and executed the Collective Action 101 workshop. After Enya reached out to the Minister of Climate Change for advice on approaching political activism, the three were surprised by a video from the Minister addressed to their workshop participants. In this hour-long session, Enya, Maggie, and Serena put together a presentation that covered everything from the meaning of agency to Indigenous activism. The workshop culminated in an activity in which our ECF team guided participants in drafting hand-written letters to their local representatives.
